About Us
E koekoe te Tūī, e ketekete te kākā, e kūkū te kererū
The Tūī chatters, the kākā cackles and the kererū coos.
We are all positively different and significant - it takes all kinds of people to make a beautiful Aotearoa and Playhouse.
Providing quality care and education is part of our Playhouse kaupapa.
Our team of experienced teachers see each child as unique and born capable to learn and encourage them to learn and grow at their own pace - ā tōna wā, in their own time, in a safe environment.
The wairua of this whare is warm and inviting. it is here where attachments are formed and aroha is visible.
We know how to have fun, our approach is unhurried, respectful and based on trusting relationships.
We foster a learning environment of thinking, co-constructing, problem solving, exploring with others and we respect how different children learn.
Te Whāriki, the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Tīriti o Waitangi and biculturalism, (te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga Māori) is firmly rooted within our philosophy and practice.
We follow a play-based approach to learning, where children learn through child-led, open ended play which develops cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills.
We acknowledge that significant brain development happens in the first 1000 days of a child’s life, from conception to age 3, and therefore secure attachments, a language rich, nurturing environment, where free movement and fundamental movement is part of of the curriculum, is vital for brain development, wellbeing and growing bodies.
We celebrate children, families and the rich diversity of the many cultures in Aotearoa and within Playhouse.
We see our parents and whānau as primary caregivers and together we aim to meet the aspirations for our children. We see this as an important partnership. Parents are welcomed in, consulted with, respected and listened to.
We know that transitions and pathways to school is a time of change and adaptation for children and their whānau, and this time of change involves forming new relationships, roles and responsibilities. The transitions into and within Playhouse afford children and their families the time to settle in, in a positive and supportive way.
We do 5 settling in visits which we are happy to discuss with you if you are interested in a visit to Playhouse. Just contact us.
We would love the opportunity to talk to you, answer any questions about care for your child and show you around our place.
